Outbreak of Hepatitis A

Los Angeles County is experiencing an outbreak of hepatitis A. The majority of cases are occurring in individuals who are homeless and/or use illicit drugs. It is recommended that all persons who are homeless, active drug users, and those that provide services to the homeless receive the hepatitis A vaccine.

Additionally, Public Health also recommends that at-risk workers, which include personnel with direct physical contact with homeless people and/or active drug users, educate themselves about hepatitis A and get vaccinated due to potential occupational exposure through proximity to homeless shelters and encampments, sewage and/or food disposal.
