YOUTH (ages 5-12) Saturday, 11:30 a.m. with occasional guest storytellers. The Friends of the Signal Hill Library invite you to join them in working to promote, enhance, and improve the programs, services, and resources of the Signal Hill Library. Through memberships, donations, and book sales, speakers are sponsored and programs of interest to the community; support the Reading Program and other special programs for children; provide funds for special materials and equipment to improve service to the public; and stimulate endowments and bequests. Book sales, author talks, and auctions are all a part of the fun, as well as being a part of an organization of people interested in reading, books, and enhanced library service for the 21st Century. ACCESS THE ON-LINE LIBRARY CATALOG You can now check online to see if the book you have been longing to read is available at the Signal Hill Library. Simply click on the link below and it will take you to Web Collection Plus. From there, you can search for a book by author, title, subject or keyword. Simple as that! If you have questions about the site, please contact the library at (562) 989-7323. If you want check your library account, click on MyInfo. It will ask you for a barcode number, type in the barcode number on your library card. The password will be your last name. If you wish to reserve a book, go to the book record and click on e-mail request at the top of the page. And remember, there is no such thing as too much reading! Online Catalog ASK A LIBRARIAN The following website is an online reference allowing you to ask a librarian a question 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! Ask the Librarian LIBRARY RESOURCES The library has 6 computers, courtesy of a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Each computer has 38 software titles including Office 2000, Encarta Encyclopedia, as well as educational games for children and Internet access. A periodical index, featuring full text articles from the most well read magazines and journals, popular reference books and current newspaper articles, are also now available at the library. Historical images and full color maps are included. The Metropolitan Cooperative Library System (MCLS) is an association of public libraries in the greater Los Angeles area that shares resources to improve library service to the residents of the participating cities. Some of the advantages are: inter-library loan services; a Summer Reading Program theme with other member libraries; a shared delivery service, i.e. Signal Hill Library books that are returned to a Long Beach Branch will be returned to Signal Hill; and a reference referral program where the resources of the Los Angeles Public Library are available to our patrons. ![]() |
