Traffic Accident Reports

We are pleased to be able to allow you the ability to obtain traffic collision reports online through a contract services agreement with PoliceReports.US.   As the investigative process on hit and run traffic collisions may continue for some time, these reports are not available online.

Please note that it usually takes AT LEAST ten working days for a collision report to become available online.  Collision reports are reviewed by the Sergeant in charge of the Traffic Safety Unit and then processed by our Records Division.  If your report is not ready after twenty working days, please contact our Records Division directly, Monday through Thursday 7:30 am to 5:30 pm and Fridays 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, at (562) 989-7200 to inquire on the status of your report.

You will need three items of information in order to obtain a report:

  • The report number. The format this number takes is YY-NNNN where YY is the two digit year number (i.e. 2011 = 11, 2012 = 12, 2013 = 13) and the four digit number assigned to that specific report within that year.  This part must be four digits long, you may need to pad the number with zeroes in order to fill out the entire number (i.e. the 13th report this year would be 11-0013, the 375th report would be 11-0375, the 1553rd report would be 11-1553).
  • The date of the report.
  • The last name of one of the drivers involved in the traffic collision.

Follow the prompts on the web page in order to obtain a copy of your report.
PoliceReports.US charges a $4 convenience fee for online access.  This fee is in addition to the Signal Hill legislatively adopted fee of $20 for police reports.  You may still request a copy of police reports by visiting our Records Division Monday through Thursday 7:30 am to 5:30 pm and Fridays 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.
