Jail
The City of Signal Hill Jail is a Type I facility governed by Title 15 of the California State Code. The jail has two cell blocks, which can house a total of thirteen prisoners, and one sobering cell used to house prisoners who are under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
Cameras
For the safety of the prisoners, officers, and dispatchers, a video camera has been installed in each cell and cell block. The cameras allow the jailers to monitor prisoners 24 hours a day. The activity in each cell is recorded 24 hours a day, and the recordings are kept for one year for evidentiary purposes per state-mandated policies.
Fingerprinting
The Tenprinter fingerprint machine electronically captures the prisoner's fingerprints and sends them via a T1 line to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the California Department of Justice. Fingerprints are checked to verify the prisoner's name, date of birth, and any prior criminal history. This process results in the positive identification of prisoners within approximately four hours.
Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA)
The Signal Hill Police Department has zero tolerance toward all forms of sexual abuse and sexual harassment. The Department will not tolerate retaliation against any person who reports sexual abuse or sexual harassment or who cooperates with a sexual abuse or sexual harassment investigation. Abuse can be reported in several ways:
- Immediately contact any jailer, jail supervisor, or any other person in the jail facility.
- You may also remain anonymous by notifying a public or private person not associated with the Police Department.
