Get Ready for Halloween on the Hill: A Community Scavenger Hunt

Halloween on the Hill

Ghouls of all ages are invited to join us in a Halloween scavenger hunt! We will be hiding Ghostly Gus throughout the community this October, and it’s your mission to find him!  This contest is open to Signal Hill residents only, of all ages. We’re also inviting residents and businesses to host Ghostly Gus during the month of October! If you’re interested in being a host, please contact the Community Services Department at 562-989-7330.

Starting October 1, find Ghostly Gus in one of the locations identified in a space in the official Scavenger Hunt grid. Locations include City facilities, local parks, and more. You can download and print the grid here (PDF) or you can find it on page 12 in your copy of the Fall City Views newsletter, hitting mailboxes soon. Once you’ve crossed off spaces diagonally, across a row or vertically in a column, you qualify to win a prize. Special prizes are given to those who can complete the entire grid!

Remember to be safe while ghost hunting. Always wear a face covering when outside of the house and stay six feet apart from people you don’t live with. If you’re out walking, please watch for vehicles, and always cross the street in marked crosswalks when it is legal and safe to do so.

Directions: Once you’ve found a Ghostly Gus, write the secret code that’s listed on his picture on the corresponding space on the grid. Then you can consider that space as completed. Once you’ve completed a horizontal, diagonal, or vertical line, or completed the entire grid, you can submit your grid to win a prize!

  • Option 1: Tear out the completed page from City Views, or print your completed grid, with the secret codes you’ve found clearly marked in each space. Send it by mail, along with your name, age, address and phone number. Please send all submissions to the Community Services Department, 1880 E. Hill Street, Signal Hill, CA, 90755.
  • Option 2:  You may either digitally scan or take a digital photo of your completed grid, with clearly legible secret codes, and email to with your name, age and phone number, no later than Thursday, October 29, 2020, at 4:30 p.m.

For more information, please call 562-989-7330. Happy hunting!
