Please Pardon the Brown Grass at Discovery Well Park

Over the past several months, the City has made repairs to underground utilities that are buried below the turf area.  This required the City to turn off the irrigation system while the repairs were made causing areas of the turf to die out.  Additionally, the Park is built atop a former oilfield.  The agronomical condition of the soil requires watering of the turf that is beyond what is allowed under state and local water conservation regulations.

The Public Works Department and Community Services Department are evaluating alternatives for the turf area that are environmentally suitable and appropriate for the current use of the park.  The Sustainable City Committee and the Park & Recreation Commission will be involved in this process.

We thank you for your patience as we work toward an environmentally sustainable solution.  Feel free to contact the Public Works or Community Services Departments if you have any questions. Public Works Department: 562-989-7301 Community Services Department: 562-989-7320
