Activities and Responsibilities

Volunteers are involved in nearly every aspect of police services. They have a unique opportunity to learn about the Police Department's operations and the justice system; receiving classroom training, field training, and in-service training. Once trained, volunteers provide support in the following areas:

  • Administrative support
  • Bicycle registration
  • Fingerprinting services
  • Newsletter creation
  • Parking enforcement
  • Speed watch
  • Vacation watch
  • And more...

Time commitment for a police volunteer is 12 hours per month of volunteer time, attendance at volunteer meetings and one year of service. On an annual basis, volunteers contribute more than 6,000 hours of service and drive more than 9,700 miles.
