[ARCHIVED] Parks Make Life Better

Parks and recreation in Signal Hill play an important role in creating a healthy community through a variety of inviting parks that provide access to the serenity and awe of nature, and outdoor spaces for play and exercise. Our innovative programs include family excursions, positive alternatives for youth and teens, and facilities for group sports and private rentals.

A research project sponsored by CPRS demonstrates that parks and recreation are essential to the lives of Californians. Virtually every household (98%) reports having visited a park during the past year, and 42% reported visiting a park several days a week. Half of California households reported that at least once in the past year a family member participated in a structured park program such as a sports program, a camp or youth class, or an adult class or fitness program.

As part of our ongoing efforts to provide active opportunities, we are bringing new outdoor fitness equipment for adults to Reservoir Park. The LifeTrail Advanced Wellness System, designed by Playworld Systems, was “developed in conjunction with a leading gerontology and kinesiology specialist … for older adults desiring an active lifestyle.” The three-sided stations are ADA compatible and “promote functional fitness with exercises that enhance strength and flexibility.” Our goal is to have four exercise stations installed by the end of January with a grand opening that incorporates demonstrations of workout programs.
