[ARCHIVED] Officers Recognized for Outstanding Service at 4th Annual Police Awards Ceremony

Several SHPD officers were honored at the 4th Annual Community Celebration and Police Awards Ceremony, held at the Assumption of the Blessed Mary Greek Orthodox Church on March 14, 2019. Congratulations to all who were honored for Major Awards/Commendations and Department Recognition Awards. Many thanks to the Signal Hill Police Foundation for their support.

Department Recognition Awards


Meritorious Conduct Medal

Recipients: Officers Casey Blair and Andrew Lopez

This medal shall be awarded to those employees who display courage beyond the normal course of duties and placed him/herself in potential peril. The employee showed professional judgement and did not jeopardize the mission.

Purple Heart

Recipients: Officers Adrian Jimenez and Thomas Nadal

This medal shall be awarded to those employees who, while serving in an official capaicity, incur a serious injury.

Award of Excellence

Recipients: Senior Officer Don Moreau and Dispatcher Shanika Taylor

The Award of Excellence is an achievement award that may be presented to a full-time, sworn or professional employee, or work group based on their outstanding accomplishments/achievements during the past twelve months, or in recognition of an employee or work group who practices the concept of the Signal Hill Motto & Values Statement.

Police Volunteer of the Year

Recipient: Judith Jacobus

This award shall be awarded to a volunteer employee who demonstrates the qualities set forth by the Signal Hill Police Department's Motto & Values Statement and values their work as a source of satisfaction and enjoyment.

Professional Employee of the Year

Recipient: Samantha Torres

The Professional Employee of the Year may be awarded to a professional employee of any rank or position who demonstrates the qualities set forth by the Signal Hill Police Department's Motto & Values Statement and values their work as a source of satisfaction and enjoyment.

Police Officer of the Year

Recipient: Officer Gregory Friend

The Police Officer of the Year may be awarded to any sworn officer of any rank who demonstrates the qualities set forth by the Signal Hill Police Department's Motto & Values Statement and values their work as a source of satisfaction and enjoyment.
