[ARCHIVED] Non-Essential Programs and Events Cancelled Due to COVID-19

Covid-19 Non-Essential Events Cancelled purple image of virus close up

The City of Signal Hill is committed to the health and safety of everyone in our community.  The City is under the jurisdiction of the L.A. County Department of Public Health, and we are committed to following all directives and guidance from County, State, and Federal health officials. In alignment with recent directives from the L.A. County Department of Public Health and the California Department of Public Health, we are canceling non-essential programs and events scheduled to occur within the next 60 days. All paid Community Services activities will be refunded via a check refund within 4-6 weeks (as of March 12).

Cancellations include the following:

  • All Library programming, including Story Time, After School Club, First Friday Book Club, Library Teen Drop-In, and all other Library special events
  • Senior Folding Group and Senior Social Club
  • All Active Adult Excursions
  • Youth Sports
  • Spring Fest
  • The Ellen Ward Community Yard Sale
  • Facility rentals of more than 50 people

The Mayor’s Reception, originally scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, will be rescheduled for a later date.

The Signal Hill Public Library will remain open during regular operating hours. However, the number of patrons inside the Library will be limited to no more than 50. The Community Services Department will also cancel the After School Recreation Club and Tween Programs starting March 16, now that Long Beach Unified Schools will close. This is per County Public Health recommendations.

These actions are being implemented not to cause concern, but to mitigate potential rapid transmission of COVID-19 in and around our community. These measures also protect at-risk individuals from becoming seriously ill and help to avoid an overload of our health care system. We can all do our part to prevent the spread of this new virus. Stay home when you are not feeling well, wash your hands regularly, avoid close contact with those who are ill, and practice good health hygiene. We encourage you to use trusted sources for information on COVID-19. Visit http://www.cityofsignalhill.org/coronavirus for the latest information and guidelines on how to stay healthy. You can also dial 2-1-1 for information directly from the L.A. County Public Health Department.
