News Flash SHPD Now Hiring

Open Positions:

  • Police Recruit: This is a non-sworn, non-represented, civilian classification, specifically designed to train police officer candidates for eligibility as a sworn police officer with promotion to the position of police officer contingent upon satisfactory completion of police academy training and meeting all other requirements. 
  • Police Recruit - Academy Enrolled: This position is same as above, however candidates must be currently enrolled in a California P.O.S.T. approved basic police academy.   
  • Police Officer (Lateral): This is not an entry-level position. Only qualified lateral applicants with current full-time employment, in good standing, of at least one year as a sworn police officer with a California P.O.S.T. approved agency, possession of a California Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate, and successful completion of the required probationary period should apply.
  • Dispatcher/Jailer: Under general supervision, receives incoming calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance and dispatches necessary units; maintains custody, control, and safekeeping of all inmates detained in the City jail; and performs a variety of general support duties related to communication and records activities.
